Trip to
Poland
June 14-24, 2005
Our primary purpose for visiting Poland was to visit some of our ancestral German villages located just south of the Baltic. However, we also immensely enjoyed visiting Gdansk, Elblag, Warsaw, & Krakow. The tour of Poland was under the leadership of Dr. Peter Klassen, assisted by his wife, Nancy. Dr. Klassen has spent many years studying Polish history of the years the Mennonites settled the area south of the Baltic Sea between the cities of Gdansk and Elblag and farther south along the Vistula River. Local government officials regard Dr. Klassen as an authority on this part of Polish history. His book on the impact of the Mennonites on this region has been translated into Polish and is used to supplement history texts in the public schools of the region. We thank Dr. Klassen for his able leadership which made the tour a valuable experience for us.
